Two charities will receive over €82,000 following a series of fundraisers by (opens in a new window)UCD Students' Union over the last academic year.
The staggering sum of €82,595.82 was raised throughout 2017/18 for (opens in a new window)Pieta House and the (opens in a new window)Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
Over the course of RAG week, €20,680.56 was raised on behalf of both charities, while the (opens in a new window)UCD Fashion Show helped collect €7,738 for the DRCC.
The annual Darkness Into Light 5km event raised €54,177.26 for Pieta House, who specialise in suicide prevention.
Over 150,000 people took part in the charity’s symbolic early morning walk into the light, which aims to encourage more discussion about suicide and mental health issues in Ireland.
“Our Union Council chose these two charities last September who’s services can directly support UCD students.
“A special thank you to the staff in both Pieta House and DRCC, those on the Fashion Show Committee, the SU team and class reps, and the volunteers and anyone who donated.”
